IN THE SPOTLIGHT
The Convert’s
Last Crossing
Mamir Deshin was born to inherit the privileges of an empire. Instead, he would become one of its most dangerous enemies.
When the son of a powerful imperial prefect discovers the brutality concealed beneath his father's authority, he abandons the world that raised him and seeks refuge among the people he was taught to despise.
But defection is only the beginning.
Drawn into a bitter struggle between the Imperium of Karsai and the Auranic League, Mamir must earn the trust of former enemies while confronting the loyalties, prejudices and ambitions he has carried with him. As war spreads across cities, mountains and contested frontiers, his gifts as a soldier bring him honour and influence — and draw him deeper into the violence he once hoped to escape.
The farther Mamir travels from his former life, the more difficult it becomes to distinguish the demands of justice from the seductions of vengeance.
The Convert's Last Crossing is a historical novel of faith, betrayal and conscience, set in a world of rival empires, fragile allegiances and costly convictions. At its heart lies the struggle of a man who must reckon not only with the wrongs of those he has rejected, but with the consequences of his own choices.
BEHIND THE IMPRINT
About Lilypad
Publishing
Lilypad Publishing is a small, independent publishing imprint based in the United Kingdom, born out of a love of books and everything that goes into making them.
We have always admired the care that distinguishes a good bookshop, where the people behind the counter know their shelves, enjoy talking about what they've read, and take genuine pleasure in recommending something worth discovering. It is something of that spirit we hope to bring to publishing.
We believe a book deserves attention not only for the words it contains, but also for the way it is made. A well-chosen typeface, a thoughtfully designed cover, the feel of a page in the hand — these things matter to us. They are part of the pleasure of reading, and we take them seriously.
We are a small imprint, and we are quite happy to remain one. Our aim is not to fill shelves with as many titles as possible, but to give each book the consideration it deserves. Our interests range across fiction and nonfiction, and we are always drawn to writing that engages the imagination, invites reflection, or simply tells a good story exceptionally well.
Above all, we enjoy books: finding them, reading them, talking about them, and bringing new ones into the world.
If that sounds like your kind of place, welcome to Lilypad Publishing.
